Volunteer Requirements
15 Hours Per Family
La Mesa National Little League is a 100% VOLUNTEER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION whose mission is to provide our community with a recreational baseball league so that every child may play in a safe and friendly environment. To keep our program running smoothly, we rely on our amazing LMNLL families, to help run the everyday operations of the league. In order to do this effectively we have a LMNLL Volunteer Program that requires each family to assist the league by volunteering their time.
In prior years, a Volunteer Program Fee was charged by the League at the time of Registration or at Assessments. The fee was returned after the minimum 15 hours of volunteer service had been completed. At this moment, the Board has ceased this policy, as we have been fortunate to have a great group of families and volunteers over the last few seasons. We look to continue with this policy as long as we continue to see a high level of volunteer participation.
FAQ
Why does my family have to volunteer?
Simply put, the League cannot operate without volunteers. La Mesa National Little League is run 100% by volunteers. As most parents know, the Little League baseball experience is a special one for our kids, full of life lessons on their journey to becoming adults. By volunteering your time, you are helping to create those life long memories and life lessons for not just your child, but all the children in the league..
When do we have to volunteer?
There are many opportunities to volunteer, including both before & during the season. Pre-Season focuses on planning & running events, whereby the season offers opportunities that occur on an ongoing basis. The range of volunteer work allows you to participate in a variety of ways that fits your schedule.
How much time does volunteering take?
Your volunteer commitment is per family, not per child participating in the program. Each family is expected to volunteer for a minimum 15 hours, as recommended by the Board of Directors. The volunteer work can span over several shifts or opportunities. We recommend trying several different volunteer opportunities, as you may prefer some of the duties over others. A typical volunteer schedule may look like this:
- Assessment Event - 3 hours
- Field Cleanup Event - 3 hours
- 3x SnackBar Shifts - 9 hours
What positions are available?
The lists of some volunteer positions we need to fill during the regular season are listed on our Volunteer Opportunity page. The specific number of volunteers needed in each position is determined once the number of families participating in our program is known.
How do I log my volunteer hours?
We are looking to streamline this process, and will advise teams how to track these hours as we progress through the season.
